RootLingua is a language app built on one idea: you should be able to learn a new language from the language you already know.
Learning should start from your own language
Most language apps assume you already speak English. If your first language is Polish, Arabic, Thai or Hindi, you often have to learn through English before you can even start on the language you actually want. RootLingua removes that detour.
Choose the language you know and the language you want to learn. Every flashcard, game, story and clue connects the two directly. No English required.
What you’ll find in RootLingua
Flashcards with pictures and audio, games that only use words you have already studied, illustrated short stories you can listen to at your own pace, and cultural curiosities from the places where each language is spoken. You can learn any of our languages from any other.
Who we are
RootLingua is made by Rootlingo AS, a small family-owned company in Lysaker, Norway, founded by Andrew and Kristin Enestvedt. We build RootLingua for people finding their way in a new language, whether they have moved to a new country, are welcoming someone who has, or simply want to understand the people around them.
What we believe
- Your language comes first. It is your starting point, not something to get past.
- Free to start. The core of RootLingua is free with ads. Premium is there for those who want unlimited seeds.
- Always growing. We keep adding languages, words and stories, and we listen to what learners ask for.
